Estrogen & Progesterone

Mood swings and hormones are very closely related. The key is the balance between the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.  Suzanne Somers, in her book, The Sexy Years, entitles one of her chapters, “I’m Out of Estrogen, and I Have a Gun!”

Estrogen is known as the female hormone; however, too much of it can make you edgy and irritable. This “estrogen dominance” means you have too much estrogen and not enough progesterone.  These hormones act in opposition to one another – as the level of one increases, the level of the other decreases.  Hence the need for proper balance.  An imbalance can lead to mood swings, severe menstrual problems, and insomnia.

Progesterone is the mood leveler and does wonders for women that are prone to anxiety and/or panic attacks. If your mood swings worsen just prior to the beginning of your menstrual period, or at the time of ovulation, have your progesterone levels checked. Your family will love you for it.

"What a difference hormones make! My PMS was so bad, I was scary! Little did I know that my progesterone was so low. I had used the creams from the health food store, but they were much too weak for my low levels. After two months on the bio-identical progesterone, I barely even knew I was pre-menstrual. I'm not on such an emotional roller-coaster now."
